What is the email relay and how does it work?

Edited

When you apply for a role through Shoutt, we automatically generate a unique email address for that application. This is your relay address. It is the contact email that appears on your application, not your personal email address.

Why we do this

The relay serves two purposes. First, it keeps your personal email address private until you choose to share it. Second, it allows Shoutt to automatically track responses and keep your application dashboard up to date, so you always know which roles have had activity and which haven't. This way nothing gets lost and all communications are secure.

What happens when a recruiter replies

When a recruiter or hiring manager responds to your application, their reply goes straight to your personal inbox as normal. A copy is also logged in your Shoutt dashboard against that application, so everything stays organised in one place without you having to do anything.

Replying to recruiters

You can reply directly from your own email as normal. The recruiter will see your reply come from the relay address, keeping your personal email private for as long as you want.

When to share your direct email

Once a role has been accepted and the contracts have been signed, you can share your personal email address directly with the recruiter if you prefer to communicate outside of Shoutt from that point.

Do I need to set anything up?

No. The relay address is generated automatically for each application. There is nothing you need to configure.
